Hey guys.

Have had some decent success fishing the canals near me feeder fishing for the first few times. Have caught a few decent fish (including a nice yet unexpected pike somehow) and have enjoyed myself into the bargain.

I feel Im just getting to grips with this new method of fishing, and long may it continue. Got talking to a bloke at a party the other night and he's taking me fishing a well stocked commercial next week. I was told by him that the pole is the method of choice for most people on there but if I take my feeder rod with me I should catch a good amount anyway.

The only thing is he told me that the bait of choice is the pellet and it makes for the vast majority of catches on the lake. What should I do? Carry on with my own maggot and sweetcorn over a breadcrumb groundbait method, or try pellets for the day? How would I go about incorperating pellets into my fishing style? How do I hook them? How many will I need? How do I loose feed them? etc etc..

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dave.

hi mate glad your having fun fishing :D

theres loads of ways you can get pellet out there. you can mix a few into your groundbait mix, or perhaps use the groundbait to plug the feeder and place loose pellets between the two plugs. you could also use softened pellets (just add a bit of water/sweetcorn juice) in conjunction with a method feeder.

pellets do work very well on commercials, but take a tin of corn and meat with you as well, these are great change baits and I find meat fishes really well as a hookbait when fished a longside loose pellets.

if you are wanting to hook your pellets the easiest option would be to use a bait band IMO.

good luck and I hope you catch loads ;)

Hi Dave, I've recently started using pellet as an alternative to corn on our local commercials. Soft hooker pellets work well (I use 6mm) if you can find reasonably firm ones. Ready made are most convenient and I find GOT baits halibut or cat meat flavours work for me. Always hook through the side not the end, they stay on longer. Banded pellets work well too with the band on a short hair, or even just hooked through the band on the pellet. I find a size 16 Kamasan B911 is good for these baits. Use these with loose fed pellets which if you're fishing a commercial may well be the ones only allowed by the manager:rolleyes::rolleyes:

best of luck, let us know how you get on.

Hair rigging pellets

You can use this method for hair-rigging pellets on leger and float, (waggler or pole). Use a smaller hook and pellet than those in the picture for commercial carp though

That hook wouldn't be allowed on any of my local commercials:rolleyes::rolleyes:
But that's a whole 'nother debate:)

Our club has a couple of waters that resemble a commercial carp water for stocking levels and the pellet works very well.

I use a 16 wide gape hook (referably Maver match this mt4) with a 6mm coarse (not high oil) pellet banded on the hair (as per Grahams picture) an constantly fire three or four pellets at the bait with a catapult.

Depending where the fish are feeding I will ledger on the bottom with a three inch hook link or use a cork as a pellet waggler (to tight to pat a £1 when corks are free).

I use the Gardner 3.2mm bands.

Thanks for your replies everyone. Looks like Im going Cudmore now instead of Pilsworth where we were supposed to be going. Am up setting off at 5am in fact and its now gone 1am already, why oh why do we drink and put ourselves in these stupid positions :p

Will bear in mind all the advice given here when I do give pellets a go, be that tomorow at Cudmore or midweek at Pilsworth.

Thanks again.

Dave.
