Due to the popularity of this challenge for the last 2 years, let's have another one.

Rules as usual are:-

Any water in the UK.

Rod, pole or whip only.

Any legal method/bait.

Starts at Midnight tonight and ends midnight 31st August 2017...

The current record in this challenge is 8lb:6oz caught by Graeme C last year..

The current UK record is a staggering 15lb:3oz:6dr...

Off you go and good luck...

I'm personally not a massive tench fanatic and will probably just have a little Tinca about, excuse the pun :D and fish a few local ponds for a few average size fish as to keep me preoccupied until I can get meself back onto me beloved rivers once again,

For all who are taking part in this years challenge I wish everyone the very best of luck

I hope Jerry and I will be able to run our usual inverted version of the challenge, we still have unfinished business from last year...

:eek:mg:

I still reckon he's got a special oversize disgorger so his look deliberately smaller :D

With the greatest of respect Matt you have your own Tinca thread running today,
This thread is for results...Please keep your questions on your own thread.

Used to be quite close, In fact most gravel pit tench can be caught close as tench tend to have particular patrol routes that they use to go around the edges if the pits, IE dawn or dusk :D

NOTICE : for the fairness and respect of others Matt as this is a results thread perhaps it's best if other tinca issues are now discussed on yer own tinca thread as has been mentioned above

Have found a venue where you most likely be able to smash the record on here from last year ! 8lb is an average fish ;)

Over the last few years the British tench records have come from big gravel pits,

The current record is from Sheepwalk big bit, Sheperton, Middlesex, at 15 lb 3 oz,

Many years ago when I used to carp fish on the famous Wrasbury pit no 1 the tench record was also smashed on this water aswell,
This gravel pit is absolutely huge with many bays, at 144 acres and with 17 islands at the time this was one real tuff cookie of a water,

Very big tench come from these type of waters and am just wandering Matt how you would ever manage to combat such open big pits in pursuit of these big tench,

There not exactly easy and at times need a lot of hrs put into em to reap the rewards :wh

Stuart I just been told of water that I have fished before but only after the carp . Just thought may go there with a different approach next time .

I wouldn't fish a pit that big but this pit I been told of is around 20 acres .

Was'nt the first record tench that bettered double figures caught by Tony Chester back in the early eighties.
I remember sitting next to him at one of the old NASA meetings at either loughboro or Queens med at nottingham a few years afterwards ?.
