Chaos seems to rule regarding where to fish on our rivers, despiteenquiries on your behalf of where is open. Warning notices whichprobably will only come down when the string rots are part of theproblem and the fact that the MAFF Helplines do not help is another.Anglers anxious to maintain good relations with farmers are as aconsequence having fruitless journeys. Certainly everyone sympathiseswith farmers whose livestock is effected by this terrible disease,but it seems angling organisations have been totally overlooked..itis about time that this was rectified.
I am keeping our web-site updated as information comes in but Imust stress that situations can change overnight.
On the Canal scene the Trent & Mersey Canal is producing somequality nets of fish. Lodge Lane is worth a visit where John Rustagereports bagging up on roach and perch to 1lb on pole fished maggot..Bream to 2.5lbs are featuring in catches at the wides at Saltersfordplus some large perch showing at Croxton Lane.
Lots of small skimmers, roach and gudgeon in pleasure catches onthe Bridgewater Canal but not many of the larger bream showing,apparently they are shoaled up for spawning.
The Kent Green section of the Macclesfield Canal produced a fishevery cast for Graham Singleton when he presented maggot and casteron the far shelf. Roach and gudgeon made up the greater part of hiscatch but two perch over 1.5 lbs apiece and four tench were the icingon the cake. The town stretch at Congleton is reportedly producinggood catches of bream and large roach to sweetcorn.
Small chub and roach making up most catches on the River Merseywith evening sessions producing the best nets of fish. More reportsplease.
Geoff Ratcliffe reports a mirror of 20-0-0 from Grey Mist and JohnCooper lowre doubles to 12-10-0. Eddie Mooney reports a good roachsession with a string of better stamp fish to 1-4-0 taken on casterand red maggot. Included in his catch were four tench around 3lbs buthe was ripped off several times by larger fish.
Paul Aspinall has been giving Moore Quarry some attention whichpaid of in the form of a mirror carp of 23-12-0 plus tench to 5lbs.Water levels are still high but the fish are still there! Problemslast week with the lock would have been sorted sooner had anglerstook the trouble to report the fault when it happened.
Appleton Reservoir trout match series, draw 6pm on Tuesdayevening. Reservoir still fishing well to small surface flies. BillJones won last weeks match with 4-4-0 caught on gold headed damselnymph.
