Chingford angler Geoff Bowen has been in excellent big barbel formthis season with double-figure specimens from the River Kennet atBurghfield and from Fishers Green.

Geoff completed his hat trick at Fishers Green last Saturday withthis fine fish of 10lb 12oz which fell for a piece of freelined BaconGrill rolled through a swim on a size 2 hook to 8lb line.

Having tried a number of swims without success during the morningand early afternoon the fish finally came late in the afternoon asGeoff teased his bait through a gully beneath a bush. Geoff struck agentle tap on his finger – proof that barbel do not always pull yourarms out of their sockets and he landed it after a determinedfight.

A 26lb 11oz mirror for Ray Perry

Yateley bailiff Ray Perry enjoyed a successful night on theSandhurst fishery last Friday when he struck into this quite superbmirror of 26lb 11oz at 10pm.

The fish fell to a 18 inch Kryston Merlin hooklink, semi-fixed rigand Carp Company Icelandic Red boilie flavoured with Cranberry &Caviar. The hook bait was presented over a bed of trout pellets andhemp at a range of approximately 35 metres.
