This week Environment Agency fisheries staff will release a total of 5,000 young fish into the River Dove near Tutbury and Marchington.
The fish, consisting of 3,250 chub and 1,750 roach, were bred at the Environment Agency’s fish farm at Calverton, Nottingham and are being released into the river to increase the fish population as there is a lack of small and medium size fish in the River Dove.
2000 of the larger fish will be marked with dye so that their movements can be monitored by fisheries staff.
Fisheries Management Officer, Gary Cyster, said, “The dye marking is part of an extensive survey into poor catches in response to anglers’ concerns about the lack of small and medium fish. It will be part of the fisheries monitoring programme to attend the matches at Tutbury and Marchington next year to monitor the effectiveness of the restocking exercise and anglers’ catches.”
