Make the most of it this weekend – for gales are set to sweep in from the Atlantic, bringing winds of up to 75mph in some areas, forcasters said today.

Up to an inch of rain could fall in some areas, leading to localised flooding as well. The storm – the worst of the winter so far – is expected to sweep across South Wales, Devon and Cornwall from Tuesday afternoon.

Average wind speeds of 40mph will be accompanied by gusts of up to 75mph in those areas, while there will be gales over most of Britain.

Forecasters reckon the storm will last into Wednesday, after which the weather will continue unsettled with more wind and rain.
