Two Hong Kong fish breeders with the curious names of Louis and Jackie Chan (where’ve we heard that one before?) have bred a giant goldfish as big as a domestic cat.
The goldfish, named Bruce, is 15 inches long and Louis and Jackie reckon it’s all down to selective breeding, a good diet and plenty of exercise.
“Every fish breeder dreams of breeding the biggest fish,” Louis said. “It isn’t the case that every fish, given the best conditions, can grow so big. We can predict which fry has the potential, but from there, we need to nurture them.”
Unfortunately there won’t be a place in the Guinness record book just yet, for there is no longest goldfish category. But the two breeders have authenticated the goldfish with a certificate from Chinese officials and are ready to enter the record books when the time is ripe.
