Lymm Angling Club member Cliff Taylor took an end of season opportunity to fish the River Severn at Rossall, and he was not disappointed because he landed his personal best barbel, which was also his first double of this species. The fish took his legered meat with a vicious take, and after eventually subduing his quarry it pulled his scales down to 10lb-1-0. What a lovely fish to end his river season.
Rivers remain open to fishing until the coarse season opens on the 16th June, however they are only open for game fishing which is governed by Environment Agency by-laws, which differ from region to region. Members are advised to check out the relevant by-laws before fishing rivers at this time of year in order to ensure that they comply with the laws and our own rules.
Please note that the day ticket stretch of the River Severn at Atcham is completely closed to fishing to our members until June the 16th, due to another Club controlling the game fishing rights.
Waters remaining open to members without an overstamp are as follows:- Lymm Dam, Shakerley Mere, Sankey St. Helens Canal (Warrington), Abbey Lake, Longbarn Pool, Grimsditch Mill Pool, Whitley Pool, Sandy Pool, Sandybank Pool, Dukes Pool, Manor Pool, Moss Pool, Mossbank Pool, Fingerpost Pool, Bentley Pool and the rivers subject to the restrictions previously mentioned.
Waters open to those with gold overstamps are:- Founders Pool, Farm Pool, Statham Pool, Village Pool, Lymmvale, Belmont Pool and Spring Pool.
Waters remaining totally closed until June 16th are:- Tabley Moat and Mere, Willow Pool, Yewtree Pool, Oak Pool, Monks Moat, Friars Pool, New Pool and Woodside Pool.
Members Jon Pearson and Phil Wain have enjoyed a couple of carp sessions over the last week, one at Belmont Pool and the other at Grimsditch. Both caught on both venues, although Jon’s brace of fourteen pound carp from Grimsditch was the highlight of both sessions.
Pike have been making an appearance on Lymm Dam, although they tend to be smaller specimens of less than ten pound, made up of mostly jacks. Biggest pike reported came to a wobbled sprat, and weighed in at twelve pounds.
Work parties continue next Sunday (24/3/02), again meeting at 9 am on Whitley Pool Car Park.
I can be contacted on 01925 411774.
