Round 5 Gwinear 10/3/02

Another windy day found the competitors of this league at Gwinear’s Windsor Lake, which is particularly open to the elements. To make matters worse it looked like rain and this was definitely not a day for brollies. St Columb Silver Ball team did not fish as only one of their team had turned up.

Shortly after the start the heavens opened and the wind increased making conditions very difficult. However, despite being lashed by the wind and rain Whiteacres’ Mike Bennetts caught steadily throughout the day to amass 83lb from bridge peg 28. Fishing the pole in the margins beside the bridge with meat and corn accounted for carp to 8lb.

Island peg 33 provided some shelter for Graham Curnow (Newtown Angling) who used short pole and catmeat to land 10 carp for 60lb 4oz and second position. Dave Barnes (St Columb Imports) also pole fished catmeat at peg 53 on the banjo. His 49lb 6oz was good enough for third. B-section winner was Neil Hall (TMS Newts) with 39lb 8oz from peg 24. Relatively sheltered peg 3 gave Mark Barden (TMS Newts) the top A-section weight with 37lb.

Top team on the day was Newtown Angling with 32 points just edging out the “Newts” on weight. Third spot went to league leaders Bait Bunker with 28 pts. The next round on 24/3/02 will be at Gwinear again as Whiteacres are opening for business a week early.
