Lymmvale received the attentions of Club officers last week, who were there to investigate options of opening additional pegs, in view of the restriction currently endured due to the increased water levels. The results of this survey will be discussed by the Committee in the very near future, where they will have to consider a number of aspects to such work, not least the anglers requirements which will have to be taken account of, without spoiling the beauty of this water.
On the fishing scene Lymmvale is kicking nicely into gear. Water keeper Mike Wilkinson landed a tench over eight pounds last week, amongst his catch of several smaller specimens. Golden orfe are also making their presence felt, as enjoyed by member Kevin Shore, who last weekend landed fish up to four pounds.
Night anglers are enjoying elevated fish activity, officials Phil Wain and Jon Pearson point out that the activities of chub during the hours of darkness is positively noisy. The week’s biggest fish from Lymmvale fell to Jon in the form of twenty one pound leather carp, in pristine condition.
Whitley Pool is still tending to produce best at the Village Pool end, with good mixed bags of tench, crucians, uncoloured goldfish and carp reported.
On adjacent Village Pool sport remains steady and consistent, although on nearby Spring Pool action slowed with the cooling weather conditions.
Lymm Dam and the Sankey Canal continue to slowly improve, with skimmers, roach and perch forming the bulk of catches. Abbey Lake and Grimsditch Mill Pool are very consistent in their good form, with roach the dominant species on Abbey and skimmers fulfilling a similar role on Grimsditch.
At the time of writing Statham Pool was in the middle of an alga bloom, a situation being monitored by Club officials. Hopefully, the problem will resolve itself on this water with a flush of water. This has not affected the fisheries performance as action remains very good, especially high up in the water.
