We visited two pools run by Colin McClean’s Exclusive Angling Holidays, Rouge Lake at Etangs des Papillons and Kingfisher Pools about 5 miles up the road. Graham, Dave Colclough, Big Rik and Doug Summers on Rouge, with Dave Cooper, Mike Fidler, Dave Preston and Simon Tattersall on Kingfisher. Here’s what happened.

The ‘poor relations’ of the trip fished Kingfisher Pools. Not for us the leisurely overnight cruise from Portsmouth to Caen, tucked up in a cabin following a nice meal. No we, Mike Fidler, Dave Preston, Simon Tattersall and myself, decided to do it the cheap and hard way, leaving home at midnight and travelling down to the venue via the Dover to Calais ferry, with a 700 mile drive each way!

On arrival we found our lakes for the week, Kingfisher pools, two small lakes the larger of which was an alleged 1.75 acres, though I seriously doubt that figure to be correct. More like 1
