Liam’s first of the session
Six-year-old Liam Welch enjoyed a terrific three hour evening session on the Match Lake at Burghfield last Saturday, netting a total of ten carp to 7lb 8oz.

Liam was a little hesitant when dad, RMC Angling boss Ian Welch, suggested that he use ‘rubber’ bait but his fears were soon dispelled as a carp tore off with his Enterprise Tackle buoyant corn within twenty seconds of first casting out from peg 27.

Liam cast, played and netted the fish without any help!

Liam presented his two grains of artificial corn on a size 8 hook to three inch Game-On fluorocarbon hooklength in conjunction with a method feeder.

The successful groundbait mix comprised Nutrabaits Trigga Carpet Feed laced with Trigga pellets, trout pellets and corn. The mix was flavoured with Betaine dissolved in a little Trigga liquid.

Once on the feed the carp kept coming and for Liam it was action with both commons and mirrors until it was time to reluctantly go home to tea and bed…

A great Match Lake mirror
Having successfully mastered the basics of carp fishing Liam’s next target is a barbel and a day on the Kennet with dad is pencilled in for when the season starts.

And no, you can’t have him in your team in the challenge match against FISHINGmagic Ian. You’ve got enough stars in your side already! – Graham
