ALLAN’S BACK LEAD BARBEL RIG

I devised the rig to overcome shy bites, and is the rig I use for most of my barbel fishing. It consists of two pierced bullets that have had the hole re-drilled to 1/8 inch to assist the passage of the line. The larger bullet can be adjusted by using an adjuster stop and the upper bullet is stopped with pole elastic as a stop-knot.

I use 1/2oz and 1/4oz bullets but this can vary according to the flow.

The rig is made up so that if I ever have to cast a distance, (which is rare) the smaller of the two bullets flies back up the line.

Firstly, put the smaller bullet up the line and tie a stop-knot using pole elastic. Push this up out of the way, say two feet, then put on the bigger bullet.

I then use one of those clever adjuster leger stops, the ones that do no damage to the line and can be moved to alter the hook length. Then tie on your hook and the rig is complete. I think now the rig is self explanatory.

It is a rig I use for close range, and by this I mean under the rod top. although it works perfectly well at distance.

About the Rigs Page

The Rigs Page is a library of features to illustrate all those rigs that will be useful to both beginners and experienced anglers.

The rigs can be extremely simple and well known, or very complicated and little known, it doesn’t matter providing they make some kind of sense and have a really practical application.

It could be a standard running leger rig that a beginner will appreciate seeing in pictures, or a very complicated anti-eject carp rig that the experienced carp angler would like to see.

If you wish to contribute a rig to this section please remember that the emphasis is on illustration rather than words. Good line drawings are fine in the absence of photographs. Please send to graham@fishingmagic.com
