S.A.F.E. was invited to the school by classes 7LR & 7WS to help them with their ‘Environmental Theme Week’. The invitation was given following liaison with other regulatory bodies and word of mouth. Over the 3 days the Environment Agency and the Environmental Team of Stoke-on-Trent City Council assisted S.A.FE. Don Corden from the Environment Agency started the 3-days with a presentation and slide show on varying activities relating to the work that they do. The response was outstanding from the pupils who thoroughly enjoyed the show and learnt quite a lot, some of which was implemented over the next few days. They gave Don 10/10 and have renamed him the ‘No.1 guy’. The afternoon saw the Classes change places. The fishing took place on Trent & Mersey Canal at Trentham donated free by Fenton & District A.S. I must say the girls did show the boys how it was done and almost everyone caught a fish including the teachers. Finally the pupils had their say on the activities of the three days. All enjoyed their time so much they asked if S.A.F.E could do this every week. The pupils quite vocally thanked everyone for attending the school to help with their project adding the Instructors were ‘brilliant’. Throughout the 3-days the pupils were enthusiastic, keen and eager to learn all they could. So much so they have all requested calendars of SAFE events plus membership forms for the local angling clubs. |
