The Environment Agency and the National Federation of Anglers are offering free angling instruction on Sunday 25th August at Lakeside Country Park, Eastleigh.
The Agency wants to encourage youngsters who have never tried freshwater fishing to come along and ‘give it a go’.
Free coaching will be provided by the National Federation of Anglers – bait and fishing tackle will be supplied for the sessions – however those who would like to fish all day should bring their own equipment.
The children will also learn about bank-side health and safety, security issues, fish welfare, caring for the environment and the rod licensing system. Experienced anglers who want to learn more are also very welcome to come along and improve their skills.
Andy Thomas of the Environment Agency’s Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fisheries Team said, “We are pleased to be, once again, joining with the National Federation of Anglers to encourage people to try angling.
“Young anglers are the future of the sport and this is a great way for youngsters to get outside in the summer months and learn about fishing. This should be a fun day for all the family, there will be lots to keep everyone interested and they can learn about fishing too.
“Places will be allocated on a first come-first served basis, so get there early to ensure a space at the water’s edge!”
