WYCHWOOD SHARPSHOOTER FLY ROD
Price: Around £ 100.00
Available in 2 or 3 sections, lengths of 9ft 6ins, 10ft and 11ft, and ratings of #6/7 or #7/8

The Leeda Wychwood Sharpshooter fly rod range has been made to cater for the market trend for USA style stiffer, longer casting fly rods.

The blanks are made from high modulus slimline carbon with modern, American style high snake guides to increase casting distance, two lined guides on the butt to take the wear of stripping, and a lined tip ring. The walnut effect reel seat is attractive and goes well with black rod.

Certainly a more powerful rod than most at comparable ratings and one that copes very well with high winds when you want to get the line out, but not too much to take all the shock absorber effect out of playing fish. Pretty much an all round rod that can be used from boat or bank with a floating or sinking line.

FISHINGmagic VERDICT

I’ve had some big catches on this rod using a floating line and buzzers on the drift. It casts well when you get used to the stiffness and plays fish strongly without being too harsh.

I would advise anyone to have a feel of the rod before they buy it as it the action may not suit those who are used to a fly rod with a more through action. Although it may be well worth getting used to the stiff action if you want to eventually increase your casting distance.
