In June 2003, Humminbird, the world’s leading fishfinder manufacturer and a brand of TeleflexMorse, revolutionised the technique of fishing used by generations of land-based anglers by launching the new SMARTCAST RF10e, a Wireless Remote Fishfinder.
For the first time ever, using pioneering wireless technology, land-based fisherman who fish from the banks, the shores, the piers and the docks will be able to view in detail the waters they are planning to fish prior to or during fishing. The SMARTCAST RF10e can also be used on a boat to explore areas the boat cannot navigate to, and to avoid disturbing fish. The SMARTCAST RF10e, with its wireless Remote Sonar Sensor, represents a new concept of wireless remote fishing. It offers all the benefits of the traditional fishfinder with the addition of being 100% portable. The display unit folds in on itself to become a tidy compact mobile unit and it is compact enough for the fisherman to carry from location to location. Fishermen simply attach the Remote Sonar Sensor, which is a small orange “float”, to the end of the fishing line and cast into the water. The Remote Sonar Sensor uses an internal sonar transducer to collect the data that is wirelessly transferred to the display in real time enabling the fisherman to view in detail the seabed or riverbed prior to or during fishing, and will also pick up detail (depth, size, etc) of fish under the sensor. The sensor transmits a signal up to a 100ft radius and 100ft depth capability, allowing the SMARTCAST RF10e Wireless Mobile Station to pick up and display the sonar readings on a large easy to read FSTN 160 x 65 pixel display.
The fully waterproof Remote Sonar Sensor has up to 400 hours of in-water usage and battery life is conserved thanks to its integral Wet Switch technology, which automatically shuts down the Remote Sonar Sensor as soon as it leaves the water. The lightweight display station is totally waterproof and is powered by eight AA batteries. Its One-Touch T11 menu system offers a choice of Fish ID, depth range, fish alarm and sensitivity. There is an additional backlight application for night fishing.
