THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED Win a holiday for two for a week in the sunny Algarve region of Portugal worth from £ 800 to £ 1000 courtesy of ‘Fishing in Portugal’. The major cost to you is your air fare, but there will be no need to hire a car as you will be picked up at the airport and driven to accommodation in a spacious town house in Silves, which is near to good bars and restaurants. John Bate, who runs ‘Fishing in Portugal’ will take the lucky winner and his companion fishing every day in his Mazda pick-up, some days close to Silves, other days to other locations. John says, “I am VERY flexible about where we go and what we fish for, and if the weather is good I do not mind staying out all night.” He adds, “I have basic spare gear that we can all use but the winners would need to bring out light match gear/poles if they wish to fish that way. Big bags of wild carp from 2lb to 7lb are near certain and I would expect 50 to 100lbs on the first day, with up to 300lbs on the second and third day. Bonus carp to about 18lbs are possible, and I would be very surprised if we did not all have a few doubles. My personal best from one of the waters we will fish is 19 doubles in one day, but that was exceptional. “We have a fishy looking river near to our base which I hope we can fish on the afternoon you arrive. It is full of water lilies and carp to just over 20lbs. There are barbel, mullet and sun fish. “Depending how we get on we could go to the river Guardiana which is spectacular. Where I fish you could just imagine that you were in India fishing for BIG barbel, carp, mullet and possibly savel. “There is a possibility that we could do some sea fishing and fish for black bass in the dams. We could finish the day with a nice barby at the end of the day and a few (or more!) refreshing drinks. “Food and drink is very fairly priced in the area and there should be some good deals on air fares. “I will supply fishing permits and dustbins full of particle feed.” All the details and some pictures can be found here:‘Fishing in Portugal’. As always the competition is run on the forum so that everyone can see each other’s entries. All you have to do is think of a witty caption for the picture and reply to the forum thread below. If the winner finds he is unable to take the holiday he or she is allowed to pass it on to someone who can. PLEASE NOTE: The closing date is Tuesday, 30th September 2003. The holiday has to be taken in October or November this year, 2003. The Small Print |
