Dave Slater with his Personal Best 4lb 1oz Great Ouse perch

FISHINGmagic regular Dave Slater fished the upper Great Ouse to take a fabulous perch of 4lb 1oz.

Dave, from Ringwood, Hampshire, fished a quiet stretch of the river where perch over 3lb are found in reasonable numbers, but 4-pounders are quite rare.

“I caught the perch on double lobworm on a size 4 Kamasan B983 with a flattened barb,” Dave said. “I like to do this as it gives the best features of barbed and barbless hooks. The hook came out easily as it always does when the barb is squeezed down.”

With just enough weight to hold bottom, he used a light quivertip rod to present his lobworm bait and struck immediately he saw the tip go round.

“The fish was hooked nicely and it was especially good to catch one while the rivers are not in top condition. I like to catch at least one PB each season.”
