Back on the Ribble with Dave while the weather is right for chubbing. Lovely dry frosts but a slight rise in temperature – and no rain! The river was in great nick, low and clear and could have done with a touch of colour but plenty good enough for the chub to feed once the light faded.

Graham with one of his hard-earned fish
We fished from about 3.30 till 8pm and boy, were they playing silly buggers, at least in my swim. I had a bite pretty much every cast with a few of those better bites that you think you can’t miss, but do. Most of the bites though, were little jabs that just didn’t develop.

It was great though, a really interesting session that kept me on my toes, an evening that was just short of being memorable had they been feeding that little bit better.

As it was I ended up with four nice chub over 4lb, with the biggest at 4lb 7oz, while Dave had two four-pounders.

Tried cheese but the best bait without a doubt was simple bread flake fished with a Drennan flake punch. The flake was fished on an 8’s hook to 6lb line and the swim fed with mash via a small cage feeder.

Can’t wait to get back and have another go at them.
