Shooting heads (half of a double taper line to a monofilament backing) are banned in most flyfishing competitions so a need was seen for a true fly line that would shoot better than most conventional fly lines. So, Masterline developed the Powerhead fly line by analysing feedback from the 1500 competitors in the TFEO competition. They got it so right the Powerhead line is now also banned in many competitions!
Manufactured by Cortland, Powerhead fly lines are longer than a standard fly line at 35m and the unique taper is designed to give maximum distance.
The floating version comes in two colours, bright red at the head, with a bright yellow running line. I really find it useful that I can easily tell when all the head is out of the rod, ready for lifting off and into the back cast and then shooting in one movement.
The line is smooth and slick, shooting smoothly through the rings and lies straight in or on the water once the packaging curls have been pulled out of it.
The line won’t suit everybody, especially those who are used to making numerous false casts to airialise an abundance of line before shooting it, but I would suggest that you try one before making a decision.
I like the line very much.
