The evening of Monday 21st June 2004 on Midsummer’s Day marks a moment of angling history not to be missed. Sport Relief is inviting anglers everywhere to take part in the Midsummer Megamatch, which will be taking place at venues across the entire country. All disciplines across the sport from coarse and game fishing to sea angling will be encouraged to join in along with commercial fisheries, clubs and associations who have already agreed to put their energy into creating the biggest ever fishing match that the UK has ever seen.

This mega match was launched at the NEC’s Go Fishing show by Bob Nudd and the BBC’s Fish on Five presenter Nick Hancock.

This is the best excuse to fish on a Monday night that there has ever been and you’ll be part of something very special indeed that’s helping to change people’s lives, both here at home and overseas, for the better.

If you want to get involved in the “Megamatch” or organise a local angling event for Sport Relief please contact Juliet Robb the Sport Relief Megamatch organiser c/o ATA Federation House Stoneleigh Park Warwickshire CV8 2RF Tel:02476 414999 ext 206, or email juliet@megamatch.org or juliet@sportslife.org.uk.

With Sport Relief ’04 asking people to Go The Extra Mile at a series of massive, history making, mile events up and down the UK on July 10th, the world of fishing intends to mark its own mile on 21st June – so make sure it’s in the diary.

Sport Relief was set up by Comic Relief and BBC Sport to tackle poverty and disadvantage here at home and overseas. The first ever Sport Relief held in2002 raised a staggering £ 14.4 million, with this cash working to level the playing field in the UK by helping to tackle poverty and break down barriers through sport. Overseas Sport Relief is working to ensure that children who are forced to work or who are completely on their own in the world, escape the poverty trap.
