UPDATE Intertype Angling Society, one of the key clubs in the Thames Valley Angling Association, who have already been generous enough by allowing us to use two of their fisheries for the event, have now chipped in with £ 500.00 for the food. So, along with FM’s contribution the Grovefield Hotel will be catering for everyone who attends. It’s now a case of tuck in at the Teach-in! Dynamite Baits will be sponsoring the bait for all the juniors and….. An FM Member, who wishes to remain anonymous, has sent us a lovely selection of tackle worth well over £ 100.00 to give to the youngsters. There are still some places left, so get your applications in as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. It’s going to be a great day that won’t cost you a penny. In fact you’ll enjoy some good fishing, a sumptuous meal, and the juniors will go away with heaps of goodies. See below for full details. To coincide with National Fishing Week FISHINGmagic are organising a JUNIOR TEACH-IN on Wednesday, 24th August at two small fish-laden ponds in Burnham, Buckinghamshire (two miles from the M4). Situated behind the lovely Grovefield Hotel on Taplow Common Road (link to Multimap here) the ponds are well stocked with rudd, roach, crucian carp, tench to 5lb, perch and carp to 10lb. The square pond contains slightly larger fish on average than the round pond and is a little harder, but the rewards are better and in August it should produce some good catches. The larger round pond has the most rudd, roach and tench and is slightly easier to fish, but a recent junior match resulted in over 50lb of fish to the winner. This pond also has an island. Best hookbaits are sweetcorn, soft pellets, luncheon meat and pastes. Maggots will also catch fish, but tiny rudd tend to ambush them as soon as they hit the water. Groundbaits are a waste of time as they put the fish off, much better to feed a dozen or so hard 3-4mm pellets every 5- 10 minutes. Who can attend? Kids from 8 years to 16 inclusive, particularly those that haven’t fished before and wish to learn how. Dads, granddads, uncles, and bigger brothers etc. are very welcome to stay and lend a hand, but you won’t be fishing – this is a kids day. You can register more than one youngster if they have friends or siblings. What happens? We meet up from 9 am onwards at the hotel. Tuition will be given by trained coaches and then the fishing begins. At lunchtime we are hoping to hold a barbeque (local volunteers with coal barbeques needed!) for everyone; kids, adults, coaches. What’s the cost? IT’S FREE! You don’t need an EA Rod Licence for the juniors as the event is registered with NFW and the EA. Every junior will receive: -FREE Goody Bag from Drennan International-FREE Goody Bag from NFW organisation-FREE short 4 metre telescopic pole from the Environment Agency-FREE selection of Meltex PVA Bags from Kryston Advanced Angling-FREE caps and tee-shirts for the juniors from FISHINGmagic PLUS: FREE food and drink for the BBQ from FISHINGmagic for everyone involved. A carp fishing outfit of rod, reel and line from Pure Fishing (for what is judged to be the best fish caught on the day) How do you enter? Send an email to editor@fishingmagic.com or tvaa.fisheries@ntlworld.com with your home address and number of youngsters being entered. An entrance form(s) will be sent to you on which you nominate the youngster(s), this must be completed and returned in advance for us to comply with the NFW rules. Places will be awarded on receipt of the entrance forms, we have places for 24 youngsters. Parking is being provided in the hotel car park which is secured, a code is required to get out! THIS IS GOING TO BE ONE OF FISHINGmagic’s BEST DAYS EVER. DON’T MISS IT! Organised by FISHINGmagic with a huge amount of help from Jeff Woodhouse |
