I can be brief about this one because it has been seen before, of course. It is an excellent book and a dammed good read for any would-be perch fisher. Most of the writing is by John Bailey and Roger Miller, and very good that is too, but there are additional chapters by Vic Bellars, Nigel Witham, John Nunn and Steve Burke (on The Perchfishers). The photographs in the book are mostly black and white, but they provide a perfect record of the time. Chris Turnbull’s drawings are very fine: it’s always a pleasure to see good illustrations of rigs. I wish I’d had that skill! I suppose some of the very latest aspects of perch fishing are missing, and another chapter on lures would have been useful – not to mention flies – but it’s one hell of a good read. BARRIE RICKARD’S VERDICT | A good starting point for any percher. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it again. | |
