Ultima have begun shipping their unique new anti-twist Monofil to their dealers in the UK and Europe.

Flo-CAST is a remarkable new development from Ultima with a hollow centre core and surface profile with six micro grooves.

The hexagonal profile and microgrooves minimise any tendency for the line to twist, helping it stay straight in its original extruded profile.

Longer Casting

The six microgrooves reduce surface friction by around 20% and together with the lighter weight assist longer as well as smoother casting.

Permanent High Floating

The hollow hexagonal central core reduces the lines specific gravity from 1.14 to 1.04, making the line more buoyant and permanently floating in water, a distinct advantage in many situations.

Ultima Flo-CAST is now available from 1200 Ultima dealers through out the UK. It is currently produced in 100m and 250m spools in popular breaking strains staring at 5.0lb going up to 18lb.

FISHINGmagic VERDICT

As is my usual policy I wanted to actually use the line before passing any judgement, so I took the opportunity of spooling up with the 5lb Flo-CAST and used it to fish a club match last week. It was a mistake, not because the line is not any good, but because it is too good!

Just as I was expecting it to be a calm day, following the pattern of the previous few days, the weather decided to blow up a strong wind and put a good chop on the water.

Of course, I needed to get my line under the surface to prevent drag and I couldn’t. No matter how hard I tried, over-casting and sinking the rod tip before a quick retrieve to pull the line under, it didn’t work. The line just popped back up to the surface and lay there like a cul de canard feather straight off a duck’s bum.

I really struggled but still managed to win the match.

It cast well, stayed nice and straight, and floated like no line I’ve used before. It suits Grinner and Palomar knots and in tests broke at around the stated BS. It’s difficult to fault it.One small point, 5lb is about as heavy as you want to be for many float fishing applications. There may be valid production reasons why Ultima haven’t made any lighter breaking strains, in the more usual 1.5lb to 4lb bracket, but it’s a shame as it performs really well and would make a great trotting line with a stickfloat.
