Anglers are often guilty of taking too much tackle to the bankside, especially when going with the plan of a roving session on the river. Many a time have I caught myself thinking, “I might need that”, or “what if I need to change baits or rigs or reels?” By the time I actually go fishing, I have enough tackle to set up 3 rods with different rigs and enough bait to create a miniature Everest under the water!
17st made no dent in the FUR44 seat
We’ve all been there at some point and I’m sure it has something to do with the amount of luggage we have. My usual rucksack is a large one (I can’t remember what it is!) from Nash Tackle. This is one of the reasons why I like the FUR44 so much. It only gives me a limited amount of space, but not so limited that I can’t get what I actually need into it.
Now all I take for an afternoon session on the river in this bag is: my Fox Large F-Box, a reel, some hooklink material, a bottle of water and some tins of corn and pellets. It’s amazing how much of the tackle I carry in my regular rucksack I can actually do without.
Another big plus is the attached seat. Although not ‘amazing’ or ‘revolutionary’, it provides the perfect perch for those short stays in one swim before moving off to the next one. The seat is made from steel and is very tough and durable; this does add to the weight but it doesn’t weigh that much in the first place; plus with the weight saved from carrying less tackle, you shouldn’t notice the difference. To test the strength of the stool, I sat my fishing buddy on it who weighs a light (!) 17st. No bending or buckling to be seen anywhere.
One quarm I do have with it is the straps. I would like them longer as it would be easier to load the bag onto your back and off again. Apart from that, it serves its purpose very well indeed.
So, in conclusion, if you are the type of angler who is guilty of taking too much tackle, this rucksack is definitely worth a look, especially when it only costs £ 10.99! However, if you are none too fond of your lower back, you just continue carrying the kitchen sink about. ;-D
