Korum Seamless hooks are already accounting for a number of big fish, including Chris Turnbull’s record breaking brace of big barbel weighing 18lb 6oz and 16lb 14oz he took from the Wensum. This is what Chris had to say about Korum Seamless hooks:

“On two occasions in 2005 I lost big barbel after previously catching big fish on the same hooklink. On both occasions the join at the eye of the hook had cut into the knotless knot I was using. Subsequently I decided it was a wise precaution to tie a new hooklink after each big fish landed. When I first tried theKorum S3 hooks, I took the calculated risk of testing the same hooklink to destruction. The result was that I landed a number of big fish on it with no problem, until a jack pike intervened and bit off the hook. After tying on up a new hooklink I landed the UK’s second biggest brace weighing 18.06 and 16.14.

“These hooks are strong and sharp and are great hookers and I am 100% impressed. Having suffered repeated problems with small hooks of various patterns either opening up or pulling out when maggot fishing for tench, I now can’t wait to try the S3 in smaller sizes for tench next spring.”

FISHINGmagic VERDICT

There have not been many real breakthroughs with hooks since the micro-barb, but in recent years we’ve had chemical sharpening and Teflon coating, both of which have made a significant difference.

Now Korum have made the next big breakthrough with these Seamless hooks, especially now many anglers use the knotless knot when incorporating a hair rig.

The danger was that you had to ensure you whipped down the shank so that the first coil lay against the shank opposite to where the eye met the shank. After, or course, checking that the gap between the eye and the shank was closed properly. Even then, if the end of the wire was sharp it still meant there was a danger of the line being severed when the hook was under pressure from a big fish. As a right-handed bloke who holds the hook in his left hand and finds it natural to whip away from myself it was a pain to have to whip ‘the wrong way’.

Many anglers, me included for a time, even before the advent of the so-called knotless knot, used to tie eyed hooks by whipping up the shank as you would a spade-end hook, and of course we were faced with the same danger from that join between the eye and the shank.

I stopped using the spade-end whipping on eyed hooks for that very reason. Now I shall go back to it when I’m not hair-rigging now that these Seamless hooks have eliminated that danger, for the spade-end knot gives greater hooking power than any knot that allows the hook to swivel on the knot.

As well as being seamless these hooks are Teflon coated and chemically sharpened. They have an inturned point, which I prefer and a downturned angle on the eye. And don’t ask me to explain how, but there is no doubt that they retain their sharpness for much longer than is normal.

I’m a Korum fan and I make no bones about it. I’m not surprised it is this innovative manufacturer that has given us Seamless hooks.
