Harris wins the same match twice at Mill House

LIVERPOOL’S Steve Harris won the same match twice at Mill House Fisheries – with 25lb and 30lb – but only the second catch counted!

The Kirkby builder must have been on the ‘raz’ the night before, because he drew peg 49, but plonked himself on number 50 and in the first 90 minutes caught 5lb carp for an estimated 25lb from the margins.

Then his mate gave him a nudge and pointed out that he was on the wrong peg.

Steve tipped his fish back into Mescar Lake, walked up the bank, turned side-on to fish the very same swim alongside the bank and promptly caught six carp, all of the around 5lb, to win the £ 100 sweep with exactly 30lb.

It was something of a bizarre day because Steve Parry was second and third!

The Steve Parry from Fazakerley had 24lb 2oz and beat burly Steve Parry from Seaforth by two ounces.

Matt Hayes comes to Merseyside

MATT HAYES, carp angling icon, is coming to Merseyside for a special Carp Angling Forum on Friday February 23.

The show is in aid of the McMillan Cancer Support and takes place from 7pm at the Bromborough Civic Centre, where Matt will have two 40 minute slots talking about tackle and fishing for carp.

Other celebrities will be along; there is a raffle and a photographic competition.

Admission fee on the evening is £ 6 and £ 3 for children under 12.

Steve Openshaw and Alan Dewhurst battle it out

STEVE OPENSHAW and Alan Dewhurst are having a slugging match at Lingmere Fisheries and honours are just about even after three months of intense match fishing.

This week sums up the situation and started with Birkenhead matchman Alan getting a convincing win on the Match Lake with a belting 72lb 14oz haul of carp and barbel that pushed Steve and his 55lb 9oz firmly in to second spot.

But fishery boss Steve went off and did some homework (probably practiced too) then came back two days later and on the same water whipped Alan by weighing-in with 42lb 4oz carp taken on pole and pellet, winning by a clear margin of 11lb.
