Overview

Rucksacks are great when you are walking any kind of distance and if you intend staying in one swim for any period of time but for me they are just not practical for the roving angler.

The main drawback with a rucksack is that often items that you need are buried at the bottom of the bag and you need to lift everything out to get at it. Personally speaking I much prefer a carryall that lays open giving easy access to all items of tackle without the need to keep constantly unpacking and packing your gear every time you move swim. And this in an absolute pain in the ass when river fishing or when moving regularly.

The Korum Tackle & Bait Bag

Last winter I began to use the Korum ‘Tackle and Bait bag’ for all my roving and in particular for my chub fishing. As I said earlier I need a system that allows me easy access to carry the maximum amount of gear in the minimum amount of space and this item of luggage fits the bill perfectly.

It has a zipped front pocket which opens fully to reveal two large(ish) and four small, eight compartment tackle boxes (supplied free with the bag) that give you more than enough capacity to house all the gear you need for a day’s roving.

As you can see in the picture I actually remove a couple of these and use the elasticated mesh pouches to hold hook packets, hooklength materials, headtorch, etc, but this will be to each individual’s preference.

Two more side pockets are used to hold flavourings, swimfeeders, leads, etc, with a robust fully zipped hard base section where I keep a sack, sling and scales. On the underside of the ‘lid’ is another zipped clear section where I keep permits, pva bags and the like. Contained within the tackle and bait bag (and again free) are three bait tubs, two standard size and one large which fit exactly into the bag (as you would expect). Again, two of these I personally remove, usually keeping just the one to hold a few lobworms.

The main body of the bag is also thermally insulated keeping any bait stored fresh for a full days fishing. It is in this that I keep a loaf, mashed bread and cheesepaste.

The bag is made from the same hard-wearing, smart material as the rest of the Korum range.

The ‘Tackle and Bait bag’ comes with both padded handles and a detachable shoulder strap so it can be carried by hand between swims and slung over your shoulder for the long walk back to the car.

Being an ‘all-rounder’ one of the bains of my life is the need to keep transferring all my gear from rucksack to bag, from quiver to holdall and of late I have been putting together a bag or carryall for each species I fish for. This item has become my permanent ‘chubber’.

The bag has a retail price of £ 34.99 to check out this and other products from the Korum range visit their website at www.korum.co.uk

Gary Knowles’ Verdict

All in all this is another very smart, functional and practical piece of luggage from Korum.

Due to the quality of the material, well thought out design and all the free extra’s included, it gets top marks from me.
