This clever invention seems to be an alternative to the already successful Thick Cut Auto-SHOT. I suppose not everyone fancies cutting their own lead shot with the Auto-SHOT, perhaps through some disability or other, so this provides a very neat way of applying micro shots with a pair of pincers.
Now I’ve seen ideas before where a peg-like item was used to extract a shot, supposedly the right way around, from a carrier, but frankly it didn’t work for me and soon found its way to a general ‘unused’ area of my indoors tackle bin. I just cannot work with small shot – big fingers, poor eyesight, you name it – but the Auto-SHOT was a prayer answered.
And now this arrives, and guess what? IT DOES WORK!
To my mind it’s no quicker than using the Auto-SHOT once you’re well practised at using it, but if you can’t then Selecta-SHOT is the best thing since sliced bread. I can actually use this although I have yet to try the smaller sizes of shot, but if they are as easy as putting number 8s on 10lbs line then I will be happy.
Providing you don’t tap too harshly the shots stay in the carrier within which there is a raised ridge atop of which the shots sit, upside down to you. The pincers (found beneath the storage tub) have a tailor made bowl in the tip and all you do is insert the tip of the pincers around the shot. The shot is picked up without any squeezing and the slot is then the correct way around, a slight squeeze and it’s fixed on the line.
It’s suitable for lines from 0.20mm to 0.30mm or thereabouts, say 4 – 10lbs line, but I have some 12lbs that they work with, if only just. It’s a great idea from a British manufacturer that really thinks about what the angler needs. Not many of them left, sadly!
