Alex Bransby Lands a New PB

Chub Carp Academy member, Alex Bransby has landed a new PB.

091111alex_2_844873660.jpgThe 45lb 12oz Carp was caught at Bluebell’s Swan Lake on a Greys Torsion rod. Using mixed particles along with chopped Mistral i40 boilies.

Alex said; “On arrival at the lake I located a couple of fish moving around at about 70 yards range out towards the centre of the lake. With the least amount of disturbance I managed to find a nice area of light silt close by and a fair amount of mixed particles and boilies were duly spodded to the area in a bid to try and hold the fish present.

“Throughout the night fish were showing over my baited area. Then just before dawn I received an absolute one toner, which straight away shed the heavy lead I was using, making the fish a lot easier to control. However, once in the margins the fish gave me the run around for a while before eventually tiring.

“At this point I still didn’t know how big the fish was until I went to slide the net under it only for the draw cord to hit it’s body, at that moment I realised what a deep framed fish it was. This particular fish is one of those rare visitors to the bank. In fact it hadn’t been out for over fifteen months and from pressured water like Swan lake that makes the capture of this new personal best even sweeter.”

Greys Carp Academy member, Kevin Grix has landed two Personal Best Carp in one session!

The 54lb 12oz Mirror and 51lb 14oz Common were caught during a fishing trip to France on the 18th and 19th October.

091111kevingrix_833458287.jpgCaught using the Greys Torsion 12ft 3.25lb Carp rods, Kevin used Premier’s Matrix Reloaded as bait.

Kevin said; “I had arranged an October trip to France with two good friends, weather conditions looked favourable for the first three days then a cold front was to move in on the Wednesday.

“We chose our swims, mine being at the far end of the lake, the widest part with a nice tree lined margin to my right.  I had fished the lake in the past, but not from the swim.

“I placed two lightly scattered baits in the margins and in the middle of the lake I found a few hard clay patches surrounded with silt. The area I finally picked ran diagonally out from my bank where I put approximately 4kg of bait along the clay with rods cast to the near and far ends of the patch, between 70 to 100m out -just a small flick with these 3.25lb Torsions.

“I caught steadily throughout the week, taking nine fish, four from the margin and five from open water. These included two PB’s – a 54lb 12oz Mirror and 51lb 14oz Common. Others included two forties to 46lb and five thirties to 38lb. Two 50’s in one session is something I will never forget.”
