The cold weather throughout most of December, January and February has seen borwickfishing.co.uk frozen on more days than it has been clear of ice. While most anglers have spent the past three months sorting out tackle, regulars at borwickfishing.co.uk have continued to seize the opportunities offered by the infrequent thaws and most have managed to find the fish too.
Carp have been falling to feeders in the deeper water on Fingals, Griffish and Dewhurst, while float-fished maggot has produced Ide, Roach and skimmers, particularly on Fingals.
On Jimmy’s Lake two of the younger Regulars, Mike Friend and Will Roberts, chose their moment when the ice receded and each landed a good Pike, coincidentally each pulling the scales down to 23lb.
The unsettled weather and longer days at the end of March has seen water temperatures steadily climbing and sport picking up immeasurably now Spring is at last in the air with prospects good over Easter.
Borwick will be continuing its tradition of giving a free easter egg to every junior fishing on Easter Sunday.
Fishery Manager, Steve Griffiths is still confident that the bottle of ‘bubbly’ he has offered for the first 40lb fish of any species or the first 30lb Pike or Catfish from the site, will be safe until the end of next year. However with these Carp putting on around 2lb a year, they should both be pushing 40lb by the end of next year and at least two unknown Carp around 30lb have turned up this year.
With Pike around 30lb and Catfish well over 20lb already recorded, borwickfishing.co.uk offers one of the best chances of a specimen in the North. The fish must be verified and photographed by Jimmy White, the on-site bailiff.
