Yes, it’s time for that match again. The Keith Culley Memorial at Clattercote reservoir in honour of one of FishingMagic’s founder members.

We choose Clattercote each year because it’s more central for everyone, each has a small platform to fish from and it’s the same for everyone, and although it’s a tough water, it does throw up its surprises. There are the favourites such as Steve Wilson, who’s booked on it already and won it last year with the sinking waggler method. Or maybe Stu Dexter may come along and show us all once more how to do it.

You’re never crowded and there’s no pressure unlike at some matches.

Graham with a double figure carp

Then again, there’s always that lucky old son-of-a-gun, Graham Marsden, former editor of FishingMagic and he can always pull one out of the hat. It’s worth spending a little of the day just watching any of these three, study their tactics, ask questions, they give you the answers. Short of going to Clattercote about 6 times beforehand, it’s the best way to learn about it, ask!

Now remember, although it’s called a “match”, for the most of us, it’s a fun day out. It’s just good to meet up with other FMers that you’ve seen posting and have wondered who they are. Well, this is your chance to meet them face-to-face and enjoy a good laugh with them after in the pub.

If along the way, you catch a fish or two for the weigh-in then all the better, but even if not you are guaranteed to enjoy the experience. So get your name on the list, all you have to do is post on the attached thread your interest in attending, post Nigel (the organiser) your peg fee and tell him whether you want a breakfast in the pub beforehand. Lots of members meet up there first, it’s just a couple of miles from the venue and you’ll be tanked up and ready for the off.

After the match, as I said, we all meet up back at the same pub for sausages and chips. Oh, and the presentation to the winner.

It’s a great fun day out so why not join us, that’s an open invitation to all you newer members too, don’t feel left out. Come on this and you’ll immediately feel like you’ve been a member for years. (Yes, we really do add years to you.)
