Trevor Johnson, boss of the mighty Milton Keynes Angling Association , has reported one of the more bizarre captures of the season so far with this stunning cat of 56lb which fell to the rod of Den Reid on the Association’s Dovecote Lake.

‘Nothing particularly bizarre about that’ we hear you say – a terrific fish yes and a good one for the venue but after all it’s just a catfish! That’s all fine until you realise that Den caught the monster moggie on a floating dog biscuit intended for carp fished on a size 10 hook to 8lb line.

Trev reports thet Den netted the fish – a PB by over 20lb – after a 40 minute fight after having previously caught 15 carp on the same method.

Cats are voracious surface feeders and ‘clonking’ is widely used to attract them to the surface layers of continental waters and it is likely the fish was pulled up by the disturbance caused by the activity of other fish in the area and sucked in the floating treat along with a few small prey fish!
