It’s slim pickings from the shore this month with the best of the winter fishing having tailed off and the spring species yet to show but the Angling Trust report that there are two events staged by member clubs which should be worth an outing:

Bognor Regis Amateur Angling Association (11 March)
Head to West Sussex on Sunday 11th where Bognor Regis Amateur Angling Society, which is over 100 years old, will be holding its open beach competition. Fishing will take place at Pagham Beach. Expect flounder as the main species and perhaps the odd bass if you are lucky. Pagham fishes best at night so anglers’ skills will be needed in searching out those daytime fish that will take the prizes. Entry numbers are expected to be between 30 to 40 with junior and OAP entries available. Cash prizes depend on entry numbers.

Date: Sunday 11 March 2012
Registration: From 08.30 at  Pagham Yacht Club, 1 West Front Road
Fishing Times: 09:30 – 14.30
Entry Fee: £8 senior, Junior and OAP £4, pool flat £1/round£1, Penn points, cash prize subject to entry

Weston Super Mare Sea Angling Association (18 March)
With fishing not starting until 13.45 you’ve got time to visit your mum on Mother’s Day before heading to this spring open on Weston Beach! Again, flounder should be the main species with organisers hoping a few codling will show up to on the day too. First prize is £200, second prize £100 with third prize taking £50 on the day.

Weston Super Mare SAA has over 100 members with the club doing a great job bringing in junior members through its annual junior open matches. Organisers are hoping for 50 to 60 on the day with the prizes being presented in the welcoming surroundings of the AP bar at the Royal Hotel in Weston.

Date: Sunday 18 March 2012
Registration: From 11.45 at Weston Super Mare SAA Club House
Fishing Times: 13.45 – 17.15
Entry Fee: £10 adult, junior/OAP £5, £2 optional pools for best round fish and best flat fish.
