It would seem that the recent meeting in the Ipswich area has been overlooked i will attempt to give a brief run down.It was a meeting with I.F.C.A.(the old D.E.F.R.A.)these people are now responsible for managerial persuasion for not only commercial activity but leisure angling and all that goes with it as well.I mean if Balanced seas sets out a recommendation in a conservation zone these people have to put into action a management plan and enforce it.They have on their board Angling representation,I got the impression that they are looking to see what Angling is all about and what is involved with actually going sea fishing. Those of you whom have been fortunate to travel to foreign parts, will know that they understand the commercial value of leisure angling, after all there is more revenue to be had from L,angling than commercial fishing any day.I did sort of put the idea forward that some input by anglers when the structures for sea defence are being planned might be a good idea, a bit crazy you may think but our access has been badly affected over the past few years. So why cant we protest after all we have a legal right Still, to fish the foreshore (and collect bait to do so)and all the marine conservation zones haven't change our legal right to do so.Or have we all had that right taken away by stealth .I also asked about the demise of the non commercial fish the flounder .This was asked about on many a previous occasions and at many levels of meeting i did say in not so many words that all the studies that have been funded and carried out an answer should be available somewhere.I then asked if the problem has been identified what exactly is going to be done about it .After all isn't that what the marine conservation bill is supposed Tobe all about? My attention was then turned to a recently turned out plastic measure. This is for hopefully the return of undersized fish. The rule for this area (Essex,Suffolk Norfolk Kent and probably Sussex)has on it Ling Blue Ling Haddock Megrim Saith, most of these species are very seldom if ever caught. The species that are caught Dabs Flounder Rays and the dogfish family Huss smoothhound were not included why i asked apparently there are no size limits for these. It would seem that they certainly need to get some better input from us anglers on conservation measures. What do you anglers think?????????cadius.
