A press release from the Bait-Tech team:
Two of the top signings for 2012 – Les Thompson and Dave Harrell – have certainly made things pay. Les walked away a very happy man after a triumphant five hours’ fishing at Larford Lakes meant he became the Maver Mega Match This Champion, securing himself the trophy and a cheque worth an incredible £50,000. Before this, Dave had romped to victory on the Evesham Festival Shakespeare Championship netting a cool £6,000 in the process and putting another huge feather firmly in his cap.
Bait-Tech’s Andy Neal commented:
“What an incredible year this has been for us so far! Our lads are fishing to levels not seen before and have dominated so many events. Even though we all get on really well and keep in contact with each other, there is understandably a competitive edge that we all possess, and Grant Albutt set the pace with the White Acres Bait-Tech festival win back in March. This really had us all wanting to get in on the action and as the big events started to unfold so the results started to come in.
Steve Tucker, another new face to the Bait-Tech team, stormed into the Fish ‘O’ Mania final, qualifying at Somerset’s Viaduct Fishery. Then the Mega Match This competition started and a progression of our lads decided they wanted a stab at the big money. No less than six of our anglers – Les Thompson, Steve Barraclough, Lee Woodhouse, Grant Albutt, Jason Le Bosquet and Craig Elkin – all qualified to make an appearance in the final, some for the second year on the trot.
Bait-Tech ace Chris Vandervleit – the travelling partner of previous Match Fishing Drennan Knockout Cup winner Gary Miller – is currently making a valiant attempt to keep the crown in their hands and reach the semi-finals of this prestigious event. Good luck to him and let’s hope for an appearance in the final.
On the international scene Dean Barlow once again represented his country and secured a medal with the England Feeder team. Young Sam Hughes put in a great performance on his international debut, helping to secure a team silver for England’s Under-18 team. Even I managed to get in on the action with my first senior international appearance in the European Champs in Spain, managing sixth place individually over the two-day event as I reported, blow-by-blow on FishingMagic.
And all this plus Dave Robert’s £1,000 win in the UK Champs as well as a whole host of other brilliant results that the other lads are churning in… and we’re only in September! With a few big matches still to go, don’t bet against one of our big hitters lifting another big trophy – if I was a betting man, I know where my money would be going.”
