Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation’s Climate Adaptation Flagship has collated 1,700 studied changes and says the findings have significant repercussions for fishing and other human activities.
Team leader Dr Elvira Poloczanska says the study found that species are migrating towards the poles at an average rate of 72 kilometres per decade – far more quickly than expected, and 12 times faster than land-based species.
