Great grandmother Lillian Wells, 65, from Eye near Peterborough won the Embassy Ladies National Championship title by netting two bream for 3.300 kg from the River Soar near Loughborough.
Lillian Wells flew back from holiday in Gran Caneria especially to fish the Embassy Ladies National but fished for over three hours without a bite. Then she switched from pole to feeder rod, cast two maggots to the middle of the river and in less than ten minutes hooked into her first bream of 4lb. After a further ten minutes she lost another big one at the net. She made up for it with another good one 15 minutes later and went on to lift the title with a total weight of 3.300 kg.
Incredibly, Lillian didn’t start fishing until she was 60.
Runner-up with a weight of 2.050kg was Ann Balderson, aged 55, from Boston, who drew the next swim to the winner.
And in third place was Shiplake’s Denise Hudgell, 43, with 1.920kg.
