**Real Reviews by Real Anglers**
These are the Harris Angling Company’s own lures, so you expect, and get, quality (for the full range of Mean Lures e-mail Harris Angling. I have been trying out half a dozen of them and they are extremely well made and look quite beautiful.
At the same time there is a good range of actions from poppers to deep divers, from shallow divers to vibrating jigs, and even a buzzer (the Mean Hornet). The full range can be seen in the Harris catalogue, pages 30 to 36.
Yesterday I took out my half dozen and caught one pike on each! These were not large pike, although a double-figure fish took a Mean Harrier.
I’ve also done well on other occasions with the Mean Far Out and with a smaller, deep diver version, the name of which I cannot remember.
So far I have only used these lures for pike, but I have no doubt at all that when I get them on my perch, chub and zander waters they will work well.
I did have one initial worry when I first viewed these lures and that concerned the fine-wire trebles. In the event, and quite a few pike later, I can report no problems at all. I don’t know who makes these hooks, but they are fine.
I also tried out a few other Harris lures recently, partly on Lake Nasser for Nile Perch, but also since I got back. They have some new Gord Burton colours on their Buchertail Depth Raiders: this is good thinking and they do work well.
I’ve also tried a smaller Depth Raider with some success, and I love jointed the jointed Baby Depth Raider which I have recently tried for the first time.
And lastly, I’ve always been a sucker for the Mirrolure stable, and the 111MR Deep Diver worked well in Egypt. Shortly I’ll be trying it for pike on the troll.
There’s only one thing wrong with these Harris catalogues of lures: rumour has it that they soak the pages in a chemical which, when you open the pages and breathe it into your lungs, it induces you to put your hands into your pockets for your wallet.
I can well believe it.
