Mullock Madeley are due to start cataloguing in two weeks time, on January 22, for their March 17 auction.

Says John Mullock: “We have seen a strong trade on all items of fishing tackle during the past year. Quality tackle in perfect condition has once again hooked the biggest prizes.”

The older items also command keen bidding, with a rare Ustonson reel, dating back to the 1840s realising top price of £ 4,600, illustrated at the November auction.

John explains: “Unusual and unique things also sell well, with a rare display of fishing flies presented to former Prime Minister, the Rt Hon. Neville Chamberlain, generating a flying trade at the April auction last year with a final bid of £ 1,100, against an estimated value of £ 300.

Last year the March auction grossed a record £ 55,000. We had an excellent day with commissions from Japan, New Zealand, North America, Australia and throughout Europe. We are optimistic that Saturday March 17 will yield a similar day,” he concluded.
