Bournemouth & West Hampshire Water Plc (BWHW) have agreed in principle to lease the fishing rights at the Royalty Fishery to Christchurch Angling Club (CAC) for an initial period of five years commencing on 1 April 2001.

The Royalty Fishery is located on the lower reaches of the Hampshire Avon and stretches from the main company works at Knapp Mill to just beyond the prestigious Bridge Pool located just below Bridge Street in Christchurch town centre.

The fishery has long been famous for salmon and sea trout although the former is currently in decline throughout the whole of the British Isles. It is also one of the foremost barbel fisheries in the country with anglers travelling both nationally and internationally to fish this stretch of the river.

The lease will give CAC management of the fishery although ownership will remain with BWHW. The agreement will complement the stretch of the fishery already under management by CAC that encompasses the lower reaches of the Stour and Christchurch Harbour.

The fishery will continue to remain open to the general public and day tickets will continue to be available locally.

CAC have made a commitment to ensure that the upkeep of the fishery will remain at its current high standard for the benefit of all its users as befits this historic stretch of the river.

Current memberships for CAC are still available. Please call Steve Richards on 01425 279710 and quote ref: ROY 1 for current membership rates.
