Liverpool & District AA took their open match to the Saracens Head stretch of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal and the result was the worst of the New Year with a winning 2lb 14oz for Kevin Lees.

Kev, who fishes for Ted Carter’s Southport, drew peg 28 and pole fished with punch bread at 10 and 14 metres and caught small roach.

The popular Hampton Springs Fishery near Broxton was bang on form on Sunday and Martin Wedley from Wrexham netted 47-4-0 on Alice Springs Lake.

He was pegged on dam where he pole fished at nine metres with corn on the hook to catch carp and bream.

Second was Len Clancy (Shrewsbury) on 28-7-0 then came Ian Leech (Shimano Wales) with 27-10-0.

Brookside Fishery at Warrington is responding well to pole fished maggot at midwater and Dave Bendilow (Whizzo Blackrods) won the open sweepstake with 27-2-0 while fishing Willow Pool.

He stayed at 12 metres and got a mixed net of carp, skimmers and ide.

Bream are slowly starting to emerge at Carr Mill Dam and Gary Whalley (Saints) won the St Helens AA Open with 7lb 12oz of them.

Gary was drawn on the bottom bank (facing the steep drop) where he offered maggot on a groundbait feeder rig.
