Although implanting growth hormones in wild fish, such as wild trout, has a significant impact on their size, this doesn’t appear to be so in commercial fish.
According to this article on the BBC’s website GM hormone implants in fish that had been bred for size anyway had little impact. Alongside claims that genetically modified fish have deformities that are not found in wild fish, it would seem that there is little point in trying to change their size by any method other than convential breeding techniques at all.
So it’s possible bad luck for those wanting to catch a 90ld Mirror Carp, unless fisheries start beeding them with Sealions!?
