The Specialist Anglers Alliance will continue to represent the single speciegroups, who are members, as well as individual specialist anglers and clubswith memberships open to all specialist anglers. SAA will continue tonegotiate with Government and the Environment Agency on behalf of itsmembers as well as fulfilling the “social” aspects of specialist anglingwith an annual conference and a regular magazine for members.

This move towards unity in specialist angling comes at a time of unity inall angling with the newly formed National Angling Alliance (NAA), whichcombines the National Federation of Anglers (NFA), the National Federation of Sea Anglers (NFSA), The Salmon and Trout Association (S&TA), Angling Trades Association (ATA), the National Association of Fishery Consultatives (NAFAC) and SAA (formerly SACG) of which the SAA will be a constituent part. SAA will be an affiliate member of the National Federation of Anglers (NFA) and represent the views of specialists to the National Executive Committee of NFA as well as having its own seat on NAA.

An inaugural meeting will be held in the new year to elect a committee andappoint officers, after which both NASA and SACG will hold meetings and wind themselves up. Funds from both groups will be transferred to the new group, which will be active in promoting angling, particularly specialist angling,throughout the UK. SAA represents in excess of 10,000 specialist anglersaround the country and expects to increase memberships from individual andinterested clubs.

At special general meetings held late in November both parties agreed tothe merger and accepted a draft constitution for the SAA. This will beratified at the first meeting and membership rates and other detailsannounced at that time.
