Some time last year there was mentioned on one of the forums the existence of a variant of rudd with yellow fins. Dick Walker, in his book ‘Coarse Fishing’, mentions this in the chapter on rudd.


A yellow rudd – have you ever seen one? (click for bigger picture)

Though I have caught many thousands of rudd, I could not recall ever catching one with yellow fins. I’ve caught many golden rudd, and plenty of roach/rudd hybrids, but these all have the familiar crimson fins.

The other night, fishing the Ringwood pit that contains so many variants of crucians, goldfish and hybrids, I caught this little fellow. The picture is completely un-retouched.
