THE ABU AMBASSADEUR EON MULTIPLIER REEL Around £ 100.00

I have been looking around recently for a neat smaller multiplier for medium sized lures such as Spring Dawgs spinner baits and Bucktails. As a long time fan of Abu reels, both fixed spool and multipliers, I was keen on trying out the new EON range. I settled on a 5601 size. These reels bear no resemblance at all to Ambassadeurs as I know them. On first sight my initial impressions were not good. Lots of grey plastic and a lightweight feel put me off. My tackle shop owner Dave Frame was very keen that first impressions should not put me off and loaned me a reel to try. I loaded the reel with some 30lb braid and took off to the Thames for a try in between chubbing. The reel felt very comfortable in the hand. The thumb bar spool release was easy to use and the mechanical brake was easily accessed. This was a major plus on previous Ambassadeurs I have had. It is very easy to adjust to differing weighted lures. The drag adjustment was also easy and very, very smooth. I understand the technology involved is based on the Suveran centre drag theme. Anyone who has one of these reels will know how good that is. | |||||||
In addition to the mechanical brake there is a centrifugal braking system that can be adjusted to activate up to five brake weights. This, like other reels, is accessed through a side plate. This is easy to do, unlike other Ambassadeurs, and there are no bits to lose. I found the factory setting fine. David Will’s View The retrieve speed is 6.2:1. Now this is quite fast, which I prefer. For glide, jerk baits and bladed lures it is excellent. All in all I love this reel to bits. Any misgivings I had are totally gone and I see a lot being sold over the years. I bought mine from Frames of Hendon, The Broadway, Hendon, London NW5. Telephone 0208 202 0264 for £ 100.00 (mention FISHINGmagic and my name). This is cheaper than RRP. In addition you get a very nice Abu Garcia watch for free. It is not rubbish either! . |
