Cliff Hatton is the well known angling cartoonist who often visits FishingMagic and amuses us with his immediately recognisable brand of humour in the shape of cartoons and caricatures. This book from Medlar is a series of 75 of those cartoons that depicts the utter madness of a carp angler who takes the journey from basic pleasure fishing, through massive ‘success’, to being totally disillusioned with his lot. It is indeed a sad story, but the humour depicted in the cartoons, some of it subtle, some of it not so subtle, is such that you can’t help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. I was privileged to see many of these cartoons in full colour and that is my only disappointment, that they’re reproduced in this book only in glorious mono. That may well be the best way of presenting them according to some tastes. Whatever your taste, you will chuckle and nod your head in agreement with the statements the cartoons make all the way through it. Great entertainment for less than a tenner. Rating: 9/10 |
