Fisheries and clubs: Please ask to see a rod licence

The Angling Trust is appealing to clubs and commercial fisheries to help ensure anglers contribute to protecting fisheries by making it a requirement of fishing on your waters that members and day ticket customers have a valid rod licence to fish.

One of the most common complaints we hear from anglers is that they don’t get their licence checked and so they know people are getting away with fishing without a licence.

If every club and fishery joined in, we could stamp out rod licence evasion and generate millions more to spend on fisheries within the Environment Agency. If you need advice about how to do this, please download a factsheet which contains the correct wording for your rules.

Your views needed on bass fishing

The Angling Trust is calling on bass anglers to help us get a better deal on recreational fishing by taking part in a short survey. Together with the Bass Anglers’ Sportfishing Society (BASS), we are gathering evidence on the economic impacts on charter boats, the tackle trade and the local economy of the unfair landing restrictions that were imposed on recreational bass anglers last December.

Action against farmer over Bowden Burn fish deaths

SEPA has announced it is to take action against a farmer under the Environmental Liability (Scotland) Regulations 2009 following a major fish kill on the Bowden Burn, a tributary of the river Tweed, that occurred in April 2015.

Fish Legal on behalf of River Tweed Commission (RTC) has been pressing SEPA to take action on the basis that there is a presumption for it to do so under its own Enforcement policy.  Fish Legal will advise RTC on the measures put forward by the farmer.
