Job Description
The Angling Trust is the national governing body for coarse, game and sea angling in England.
It campaigns for the protection and improvement of fish stocks and their environment, promotes the benefits of angling and runs angling competitions. Fish Legal is the Angling Trust’s legal arm in England, taking action against polluters and others who damage the water environment, and it shares an office and a membership database with the Angling Trust.

Overview
We have secured a commitment for up to 3 years’ funding from the Environment Agency to create this new role depending upon performance and effectiveness. The primary purpose of the role will be to establish and co-ordinate a network of volunteer fishery bailiffs in the South East EA Region on behalf of the Angling Trust, working in conjunction with the enforcement team of the Environment Agency. Good performance in this pilot will underpin any wider application of the model across Environment Agency Regions in support of full time EA enforcement officers and the appointee may expect to lead a small team within Angling Trust in support of the national force.
The post-holder will ensure that volunteers are supported and that information is disseminated to and from each area, region and nationally between the volunteer team and EA employees at various levels as well as the Environment Agency at a regional and national level.
Principal objectives:
Receive and process applications to interview from volunteer bailiffs
Interview and assist in selecting volunteer bailiffs
Create and maintain a database of volunteers, including status, hours committed, training and equipment needs
Prepare documentation and equipment required by volunteers
Act as communications link between volunteers and EA Team Leaders
Prepare and publish Volunteers Newsletter
Develop and promote the scheme to roll out stage in new regions of EA if approved.
Work with regional Environment Agency staff to ensure volunteers are suitably trained and equipped.
Responsible to: The post holder will report to, and work very closely with the Freshwater Environmental Campaigns Manager who will conduct annual and interim reviews of performance against targets. The post holder will also attend meetings of the Freshwater Committee of the Angling Trust.
Location: Home working and/or a hot desk in either of the Trust’s offices in Herefordshire and Nottingham for 3 days per week. The post’s location may be subject to change in 2013 or 2014 due to draft plans for consolidation of the organisation’s offices.
Salary: circa £14,000. Contributory stakeholder pension scheme after 3 months in post. Annual salary review in December.
Start date: November 2012.
Holidays and working hours: 13 days leave plus Public Holidays. Time off in lieu may be accrued for weekend and significant evening working. 1 day of annual leave must be taken between Christmas and the New Year. 22 hours each week, with flexible working hours. There will be considerable evening and weekend work involved, which may require staying away from home overnight.
Miscellaneous: the post holder will be provided with use of a notebook computer and mobile phone. Mileage may be reclaimed at 45p per mile along with other out of pocket expenses on a monthly basis.
Ideal qualities of post holder:
We are looking for a capable and confident individual with a good knowledge of fisheries and angling issues. We need someone who is prepared to manage their own workload, is well-organised and can take the initiative in a rapidly developing organisation. Experience of enforcement or working with the Environment Agency would be useful.
